The Front Is the Hello

The front introduces itself quickly. Large ears, round eyes, a brown nose, and dried citrus make it easy to meet at a glance.

Then the smaller things start to show up: the cords, bells, paw-shaped feet, and a tiny lit scene gathered below. It has a lot going on, but that is part of the fun.

Then We Turned It Around

The back does not try to be a copy of the front. The face disappears, and curls take over. Fabric, shells, stars, dried citrus, cords, and paws carry the character the rest of the way.

We like that it feels quieter without feeling unfinished. It is the same outline, but a different mood.

Why Show Both Sides?

Not every Poddoll needs an elaborate reverse. Some backs are simple, and that is completely fine. This one just kept giving us reasons to turn it around again.

It is a useful reminder that handmade work does not have to explain everything from the front. Sometimes the extra character is waiting where no one thought to look.

The Shell References Still Matter

These two close-up photographs are not the exact shell used for this Poddoll. They are here because natural seed pod shells do not behave like identical factory-made bases. More of the making process appears in How Pod Dolls Are Made.

For a little botany context, Wikipedia’s overview of a seed describes the basic structure of a seed. Here, we are looking at dried natural material only as a studio reference, not as something to plant or grow.

One shell may be smoother; another may have a deeper curve, a visible crack, or a color change that suggests a different direction for the finished character. The material never arrives as a blank page.
